Vaccination lowers the likelihood of flu viruses spreading.
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) recommends annual vaccination against flu (influenza) for high-risk groups:
- People over 60
- chronically ill people of any age
- Pregnant women
- Residents in retirement and nursing homes
The flu vaccine also protects people who have an increased risk of becoming infected because they come into contact with lots of people, such as medical personnel and staff in care facilities.
